Aengus MacNaughtonMiranda Auto Sensorex EE AiC — released in 1971. Shutter-priority (if you use the Miranda ‘E’ lenses) 35mm SLR with a decent selection of lenses and good history of well-made cameras. I shot the Miranda 50mm f1.8 ‘E’ lens using the shutter priority mode. The original mercury batteries (1.3v) are no longer available, but a modern hearing aid battery (1.4v) fits and I used one. For the most part it seemed to work well.
Shot a roll of fresh, recent Fuji C200 (most likely a Kodak stock) at a local church (Chapelgate Presbyterian, Marriottsville, Maryland, USA) and park (Font Hill park, Ellicott City, Maryland, USA). Mostly sunny conditions (and hot!) — then the last day at the park was overcast.
Great feeling ‘old-style’ heavy SLR. Very easy to use/shoot/focus. One ‘trick’ with the Miranda Sensorex series is to remove the prism and look down directly into the focus screen, like a TLR. They are pretty bright and it works in most conditions, the only thing is that the needle meter is backwards. I did not try that out though — I will in the future.
The results seem great *except* there are a bunch that seem like they must have been underexposed and the lab bumped the exposure when scanning — the shadows/dark areas are artificially lightened too much. It’s not all in one spot like a problem with the film or a consistent light leak. I don’t have the negatives back yet to see if those actual shots were underexposed or not. So — maybe some issue with the meter or the linkage changing the aperture in shutter-priority mode???
